0210 - Counterintelligence/Human Source Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) Operations Officer              WO - CWO5

The 0210 Primary MOS is for Warrant Officers in the CI/HUMINT field..  CI/HUMINT Operations Officers are the technical experts on planning and executing CI and HUMINT operations and activities across the full spectrum of military operations. They function as advisors to commanders and staffs concerning the application of CI and HUMINT resources as well as assist the force protection efforts of the parent command. Through the Intelligence Officer, they support the overall intelligence effort of the command focusing on CI/HUMINT collection efforts, assessing potential threats, and monitoring organizations of interest in the area of interest. Principle assignments include Counterintelligence Human Intelligence Detachment (CHD) OICs, CI/HUMINT Company Operations Officers; Assistant Staff CI/HUMINT Officers for the Marine Forces Commands, MEFs, other MAGTF Commanders and Intelligence Department, HQMC.

These highly specialized and career CI/HUMINT Officers work to coordinate the collection and exploitation of information from the local population to develop a granular understanding of conditions affecting Marine operations.  This includes establishing relationships with local leaders, questioning detainees and prisoners, corroborating evidence, and working with 3-letter agencies. Additionally, 0210's discover what means other organizations use to collect information on local Marine Corps' operations, then spearhead the counterintelligence effort to disorient and deny enemy intelligence collection.  0210's advise commanders throughout the planning and operational execution processes.

There are roughly 100  CI/HUMINT Operations Officers.  After WOBC, Warrant Officers must complete the Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Officers Course, Marine Corps Intelligence Schools, Marine Corps Detachment Dam Neck, Virginia. Warrant Officers must have a current single scope background investigation/T5 investigation with a Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph exam.  Intelligence MOS Marines are required to have a Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) test score on file in their official military personnel file (OMPF). Intelligence MOS Marines that score above 100 on the DLAB may be designated to attend formal language training. There is no minimum DLAB score required. Intelligence officers will be administered the DLAB before being assigned the 0210 primary MOS.

CI/HUMINT Operations officers are highly specialized and in a low-density MOS.  0210's work to coordinate the efforts of the 0211 CI/HUMINT Specialists assigned to CI/HUMINT Platoons and provide reports to 0204 CI/HUMINT Officers.  Much of what these units, and the rest of the intelligence occupation field, do are not publicly released.  For one sea-story of CI/HUMINT at work during the invasion of Iraq, click here.

CI/HUMINT Operations Officers task CI/HUMINT collection elements, manage operational funds and debriefs, conduct dissemination and CI Inquries, conduct sensor cross-cueing, analyze source information, and perform intelligence preparation of the battlespace (IPB).
