0149 - Substance Abuse Control Specialist

            SSgt - MGySgt and 2ndLt - Gen

The Marine Corps has a zero tolerance policy towards the use of illicit drugs, misuse/abuse of prescription drugs, and drunkenness.  Substance Abuse Control Specialists (SACS) provide substance abuse education/prevention, urinalysis/alcohol screening and assistance to the commander on substance abuse related matters.  This billet-specific MOS is assigned by local commanders usually as a collateral duty to an individual serving in another role.

Personnel trained as SACS may be assigned to the billet of unit Substance Abuse Control Officer (SACO).  SACO's collect samples for urinalysis, perform breathalyzer tests, provide substance abuse prevention education, coordinate rehabilitation and care for individuals suspected of abusing alcohol or drugs, and monitor Marines in after-care programs.
