In short, 0206's work to intercept enemy communications signals, decrypt transmissions, analyze them for useful information, and pass that information to other Marines and forces in the AO. Additionally, 0206's work to ensure friendly communication architecture is developed to deny the enemy the ability to intercept Marine communications.
First Tour 0206's are typically assigned to Intelligence and Radio Battalions. Upon promotion to Captain, and after attendance of MAGTF Intelligence Officers Course, they will merge into the 0202 MOS.

Officers must have a current single scope background investigation/T5 investigation, and submit to a counterintelligence scope polygraph examination. Intelligence MOS Marines are required to have a Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) test score on file in their official military personnel file (OMPF). Intelligence MOS Marines that score above 100 on the DLAB may be designated to attend formal language training. There is no minimum DLAB score required.
