0365 -  Infantry Squad Leader

             Cpl - Sgt

The 0365 Infantry Squad Leader MOS is a primary MOS for infantry Marines who promote from 0311 Rifleman, 0331 Machinegunner, 0341 Mortarman, 0351 Infantry Assault Marine, and 0352 Antitank Missile Gunner.  They are created via the competitive and selective Squad Leader Development Program and thus considered to be the best Sergeants in the Infantry.

SLDP was designed to synchronize the training and education of a second term Infantryman with the assignments process that results in a more mature, better trained and educated squad leader. Volunteers gain priority placement in advanced infantry training and the Sergeants Course which professionalizes the squad leader billet and enhances the capabilities of Marine infantry squad leaders for operations in complex and distributed environments.

The Infantry Squad Leader plans for assigned missions and carries out the orders issued by the Platoon Commander. He is also responsible for the discipline, training, control, conduct, and welfare of his squad at all times, as well as the condition, care, and economical and effective use of its weapons and equipment. In combat, he is responsible for the tactical employment, fire discipline, fire control, sustainment, and maneuver of his squad during offensive, defensive, amphibious, and stability operations. These leaders will be placed in squad billets based off original MOS proficiency and strength.

To enter the Squad Leader Development Program, Marines must be volunteers in the grade of Corporal or Sergeant, have between 3 and 6 years in service, no derogatory page 11 entries, adverse fitness reports, or non-judicial punishments (NJPs) in the past 12 months, less than 2 NJPs during the current contract, no courts martial convictions, be Professional Military Education complete for the grade of Corporal, and have completed at least one of the following courses: Advanced Infantry Marine Course, Advanced Machinegun Course, Advanced Mortar Course, Advanced Assault Marine Course, Advanced Anti-Armor Course, or Scout Sniper Course.  Applicants must be selected by the First General Officer in their Chain of Command.

Marines meeting those prerequisites must attend and complete the Infantry Small Unit Leader Course at School of Infantry (East), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina or School of Infantry (West), Camp Pendleton, California.  At the six week course, Marines will learn Decision Making skills, METT-T Analysis, Assessing and developing the problem/situation skills, Formulating and communicating decisions, how to adapt to change, conduct post combat actions, understanding of Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication (MCDP) 1 and MCDP 1-3, Fire Support Planning/Integration, Machinegun Employment, Mortar Employment, Assault Employment, Anti-Armor Employment, Patrolling , Offensive Operations, Defensive Operations, and Urban Operations.

There are roughly 375 0365's on active duty.
